FINAL PROJECT

After struggling for quite some time to find ideas for this project it seemed fitting that my lack of inspiration led me to delve into the topic of inspiration. Looking at different meanings of inspiration and just what it is that inspires a person, I somehow kept returning to the tedious clichés which we have all heard way too often.
So for this project I have selected some of the ones that drive me most insane and turned them into visual images.
HOW CLICHE

PROCESS:
Images are a mixture of my own photos as well as web found images that I have manipulated. Each images has been created in photoshop, starting with a black background.

NARRATIVE PROJECT

For this project I have decided to take my inspiration from my years of working in the service of alcohol. My experience in this industry has led me to see the adverse effects of alcohol. It is a product that results in unglamorous and tacky behaviour. I have therefore become very fascinated in the vintage advertising posters for alcohol. These posters are highly stylised and aim to glamorise the consumption of alcohol.

For my narrative I want to take my own experiences with the industry and combine them with these glamorous posters. I feel that this will help me to convert my experiences into something more positive.

Poster Art Examples:

Photo Shoot
New Image 1:
selected fruit and created a new layer. de saturated the rest of the image and brought the contrast up to around +30. The fruit has also had the contrast enhanced, to around +15, to highten the colours and textures.
New Image 2:
Used the same steps as image one.
New Image 3:
Used the same series of steps again and then re grouped the individual layers into one. The image has then been duplicated. The new layer has then been shifted down and set to  a transparancy level of 40%. This new image aims to  mimic the double vision experienced when a person is drunk.

COLLAGE PROJECT

Manual Collage

This is the first project for the semester. The brief is to create a collage that shows week one back at uni. My week consisted of sending many emails sorting out time table clashes while also trying to move house. it was an extremely hectic week leaving me exhausted. To convey this in my collage I decided to make my self very small compared to my diary and time table to suggest that these elements were controlling me. I am laying down, in the image, to show the total exhaustion that i was feeling. I think the image is rather self explanitory, it is obvious that it is about organisation.

Digital Collage

For this project the idea was to transfer the narrative from the manual collage into a digital image. I chose to keep most of the same images although changed the layout. I liked the quirkiness of the flying emails and wanted to enhance that across the whole image by creating a cartoon like scene. I played around with filters and warped different images when I finally realised that the keyboard kind of resenbled water. From there i changed the colour to blue, added some ripples and ended up with the keyboard sea. I like that haviing things floating all over the place also adds to the craziness of the narrative.
